Meet Nicole
Nicole has a genetic disorder called ‘16p11.2 deletion’, which can cause a delay in reaching developmental milestones, such as walking or talking, learning new skills or interacting with others. Children like Nicole are over 30-times more likely to develop an emotional or behavioural problems.
To help Nicole and other children like her, we funded the IMAGINE-ID project. Bringing together more than 3,500 children with an intellectual disability and a known genetic mutation, it is the largest study of its kind in the world. Findings from this research will improve access to genetic testing and mental health services for Nicole and other children with intellectual disabilities, changing the lives of thousands of children and their families across the UK.
